Forget fast food. When it comes to the all-American burger, Bendites are all about quality ingredients and local vibe. Where to GO! in Central Oregon for a burger came down to two local favorites, but in the end, the restaurant bearing the city’s name — Bend Burger Company — came out on top.
Husband-and-wife co-owners Jon and Kristy Hayes opened Bend Burger Company’s flagship downtown location 10 years ago this September; the Third Street shop opened about three years ago and a Redmond location was added in the last year. The restaurant’s ties to the local area extend far beyond its name: Specialty burgers are named for recognizable Central Oregon landmarks, and customer favorites include the standard Bend Burger, the Broken Top (blue cheese and bacon) and the Mirror Pond (sauteed mushrooms and onions), according to Jon.
