Where to GO! for a musical or play
Published 12:00 am Thursday, February 8, 2018
The Tower Theatre won the category of Where to GO! for a musical or play. Along with one-person shows such as January’s “Late Nite Catechism,” the Tower Theatre partners with area production companies to kick off its season with a major musical such as “Rock of Ages,” “Avenue Q,” “Spamalot,” “The Producers” and “Les Misérables,” to name a few, staged by and starring local talent. Built in 1940, the beautifully restored 466-seat theater in downtown Bend has become a leading light of musical theater in Central Oregon. You don’t have to wait till fall this year: Thoroughly Modern will present “Evita” with live orchestra in June at the Tower. 2nd Street Theater, known for edgy fare and giving new shows a shot, took second, apropos of its name. Cascades Theatrical Company finished in a respectable third, and the honorable mention went to Volcanic Theatre Pub.
