Tetherow Golf Club took the No. 1 spot in two Where to GO! in Central Oregon categories: toughest golf hole and toughest putting green.
The sixth hole, a 424-yard, par-4, was voted the hardest in Central Oregon, taking the lead over golf holes at River’s Edge Golf Course, Bend Golf and Country Club, Sunriver golf courses and Crooked River Ranch.
Tetherow says this hole is “the definition of risk-reward.” If a golfer wants to make a birdie, they have to brave large bunkers and rough terrain to get to the hole in three strokes.
The par-72 course designed by architect David McLay Kidd, who created the layout of Bandon Dunes and Castle Course in Scotland, also has the most difficult putting greens, according to the Where to GO! in Central Oregon voters. The rolls, dips and curves make a straight shot practically a myth, according to its website.
Tetherow, a Scottish-style links course located on Bend’s west side, opened in 2008. It sits on 700 acres along with a clubhouse, golf academy, two restaurants, a boutique hotel, vacation rentals, residential homes and more.
The semi-private course, is open April-November; tee times are available to the public on a limited basis during the open season, according to the website.
