Open house planned for new Tumalo fire station

Deschutes Rural Fire Protection District #2 will hold an open house to update community members on its progress building a new Tumalo fire station.

The event is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. on Feb. 13 at the Tumalo Fire Station at 19850 Fourth St. in Tumalo. Preliminary designs will be available to view.

The new station house will have more room to store engines and sleeping areas for both male and female firefighters.

The current Tumalo Fire Station, built in the 1970s, features only one sleeping area. It’s considered out-of-date and in need of replacement.

The district, which shares resources with the Bend Fire Department, has set aside money each year since 2000 to pay for the $2.5 million project.

Officials have said the district may use the old station for storage rather than tearing it down.
