• Amy Oland, a volunteer site coordinator at Mid-Columbia Children’s Head Start in Madras, has been named Volunteer of the Year for 2018 by SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) for the central area, serving Deschutes, Jefferson, Crook and Grant counties. Amy was selected from among 350 local volunteers. She will have the opportunity to attend the statewide SMART Alphabet Ball held in Portland in February, where a statewide winner will be announced.
• Ron Russak has been named vice president of operations at Evio Inc., a life sciences company and provider of quality control testing and advisory services for the regulated cannabis industry. Russak joins Evio from a 17-year career at Quest Diagnostics as regional director and 13 years at Pennsylvania Hospital — part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System — as administrative director of laboratory services. He has a bachelor’s degree in life sciences from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from La Salle University.
• Daniel Ells has joined the orthopedic sports medicine team at The Center Orthopedic & Neurosurgical Care & Research as a certified physician’s assistant. He began his career as an emergency medical technician in Connecticut and received his bachelor’s degree in health sciences from Quinnipiac University. He continued his education at Pacific University in Hillsboro where he earned his Master of Science degree in physician assistant studies. He did his rotations in Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, and Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut.
• Nathaniel “Nate” Schwab has joined the orthopedic sports medicine team at The Center Orthopedic & Neurosurgical Care & Research as a certified physician’s assistant. He began his career as a certified athletic trainer at Whitworth University, then worked in a physical therapy clinic before becoming a surgical assistant for an orthopedic clinic in Lewiston, Idaho. Schwab has done volunteer medical work for the homeless and also spent one week in Nicaragua with Volunteers in Medical Missions.
• Brandy Kerr has joined Zelios as director of marketing. Her 12-year marketing career has ranged from account management in advertising to marketing manager for global corporate retailers. Kerr earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, from Washington State University and her MBA from University of Phoenix.
• Serena Kelly has been promoted to service and support manager for the commercial and business banking division of SELCO Community Credit Union, expanding her role of vice president and commercial loan officer.
• Joe Rygg has been promoted to Central and Eastern Oregon team leader of the commercial and business banking division of SELCO Community Credit Union, expanding his role of vice president and commercial loan officer.
• Carly Carmichael has joined Summit Bank as assistant vice president and business client adviser. She has 18 years of executive experience. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Portland and her JD/MBA with a concentration in sports marketing from the University of Oregon.
• Dr. Nancy Heavilin has joined KIDS Center as medical director. She most recently served as primary care pediatrician at St. Charles Family Care Clinic in Redmond. Dr. Heavilin holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University and completed post-doctoral training at Children’s Hospital of Colorado.
• Mindy York has joined Summit Bank as Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.-approved client courier for the Central Oregon office.
• Alexa Evert and Clinton Schumacher have joined Alpine Real Estate as brokers.
