Slim lead for Crook County at districts

MOLALLA — Crook County has its hands full in its race for the Class 4A Special District 1 wrestling championship.
With 16 wrestlers advancing to the semifinals, the Cowboys recorded 173 points Friday heading into the final day of the district meet. Crook County holds a 15-point lead over Tillamook, which rode 14 semifinalists to 158 points. Both teams have nine wrestlers still alive in consolation brackets.
The top four placers in each weight class qualify for next week’s state meet in Portland.
Highlighting the Cowboys on Friday was 220-pounder Calum Wilcox, who posted two falls in a combined time of 35 seconds. Also spending little time on the mat for Crook County was Caleb Parrott, who at 285 had two pins in 1:38, and 138-pounder Tyler Fioravanti, whose two falls lasted 1:45. Turner Austin logged two pins at 145 for the Cowboys, who have won four of the past five 4A state championships.
Madras, which is eighth in the 11-team standings with 36 points, boasts two semifinalists in Thomas LeClaire, at 170, and Harrison Manu, at 195.

Outlaws in hunt for state: SWEET HOME — Dustin Smith won two matches at 152 pounds to advance to the semifinals, helping Sisters post 56 points on the first day of the Class 4A Special District 2 championships. The top five finishers in each weight class qualify for the state meet next week at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland. Still alive in consolation brackets for the Outlaws are Damien Wills and Cole Pade, both at 145 pounds, Ethan Martin at 195, and Casey Warburton at 285. Sweet Home, the reigning state champion, leads the 12-team field with 185.5 points.
Boys basketball
Bend 74, Ridgeview 37: The Lava Bears raced to a 19-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and allowed a season-low 37 points in an Intermountain Conference win. Brian Warinner led Class 5A No. 10-ranked Bend (6-3 IMC, 14-6 overall) with 24 points. Jimmy Robertson had 14 points for the Bears, and Eshan Chopra added 10. For Ridgeview (1-8, 4-16), Payton Davis had 10 points, and Alex Nadermann scored seven.
Summit 60, Redmond 41: Streaking Summit won its fifth in a row and moved half a game in front of Mountain View for the Intermountain Conference lead. Joe Hicks scored 16 points and made three steals, Beau Blea had 14 points and eight assists, and Karson Klecker added 11 points for the Storm (7-2 IMC, 11-5 overall), who outscored the Panthers 19-2 in the second quarter for a 28-10 halftime lead. Dylan Taylor and Ethan Soto led Redmond with 12 points apiece, and Josh Hair scored 10 for the Panthers (2-7, 8-13).
Madras 85, Estacada 61: ESTACADA — The White Buffaloes’ bench outscored Estacada’s reserves 43-6 thanks in large part to Byron Patt, who scored a game-high 21 points to lead Madras to a Tri-Valley Conference win. Tyler Lockey, also off the bench, had 10 points and six rebounds for the Buffs (6-1 TVC, 10-10 overall), while starter Cash Reese added 17 points and four steals.
Crook County 58, Corbett 43: PRINEVILLE — Thaiden Mullan scored 21 points to pace the Cowboys, who outscored Corbett 19-7 in the second quarter to break open the Tri-Valley Conference game. Kaleb Savage scored eight points, Shane Kessi and Hunter Bishop scored seven apiece, and Chase Bales added six for Crook County (5-2 TVC, 8-12 overall), which bolstered its postseason hopes with its second straight win.
Sisters 64, Junction City 48: JUNCTION CITY — The Outlaws hit seven 3-pointers to sprint past Junction City and remain atop the Sky-Em League standings. Jack Berg led Sisters (7-1 Sky-Em, 14-8 overall) with 17 points. The Outlaws’ Ty Horner scored 14 points, and Zach Anderson had 10.
Trinity Lutheran 61, North Lake 44: Matthew Eidler set a program record with 35 points to lead the Saints of Bend to a Mountain Valley League win. Eidler also had six rebounds and four assists to help Trinity Lutheran (9-3 MVL, 16-7 overall) snap a three-game slide. Abe Clift had nine points and five boards for the Saints, while Jayden Dover and Niko Utu each scored seven points. Silas Roth paced North Lake (4-8, 12-11) with 20 points.
Central Christian 70, Gilchrist 57: REDMOND — Josh Biever scored 20 points and Jace Mills scored 17 as the Tigers rolled to the Mountain Valley League win. Casey Johnson added 11 points for Central Christian (6-6 MVL, 12-9 overall), which outscored Gilchrist 25-8 in the first quarter to take command. The Grizzlies (1-11, 1-17) were led by Ethan Hirshon’s 20 points. Beau Burr had 19 and Cody Metzler added 13 for Gilchrist.

Crook County 69, Corbett 42: PRINEVILLE — In their highest-scoring game of the season, the Cowgirls snapped a seven-game skid with a Tri-Valley Conference win. Odessa Tramel-Green had 20 points, 16 rebounds and three steals for Crook County (1-6 TVC, 5-16 overall), which outscored Corbett 23-10 in the second quarter. Emma Ackley added 12 points, 11 boards and three steals for the Cowgirls, Teagan Freeman had 10 points, and Sarah Connolly totaled eight points and five assists.
Madras 59, Estacada 16: MADRAS — The White Buffaloes recorded 25 steals, including 18 in the first half, and stayed unbeaten in the Tri-Valley Conference with their 11th straight victory overall. Lynden Harry led Class 4A No. 9-ranked Madras with 14 points; she also had nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Also for Madras (7-0 TVC, 18-2 overall), Kaliyah Iverson had 10 points and three assists, Jiana Smith-Francis had nine points and seven rebounds, and Jayden Davis scored seven points.
Junction City 62, Sisters 26: JUNCTION CITY — After staying with Class 4A No. 8-ranked Junction City early, the Outlaws were outscored 19-6 in the second quarter of a Sky-Em League defeat. Kaylee Huber scored six points and Olivia Hougham and Alexa Stewart added five apiece for Sisters (2-6 Sky-Em, 5-16 overall) in its final road game of the season.
Gilchrist 31, Central Christian 27: REDMOND — Rayenee Hoover scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Skyla Newton added 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Gilchrist overcame 4-for-21 free-throw shooting to claim its first Mountain Valley League win of the season. Kylee McClelland and Katie McDaniel had four points each for the Grizzlies (1-9 MVL, 2-15 overall). For the Tigers (1-9, 2-17), Issy Mills scored seven points, Heather Brunoe had six, and Faith Lyons, Savannah Poole and Myka Delamarter added four apiece.
