Looking ahead to Central Oregon community sports

Six weeks: Sunriver March Mudness, a 1.5-mile run through a muddy obstacle course for the whole family, will be held near the Sunriver Marina on March 25. There is a timed category for participants ages 16 and older who want to race. Registration costs $12 for kids 4 to 11, $20 for non-competitive entrants 12 and older and $30 for adults entering the competitive wave. Kids 3 and younger are free. Prices will increase on Feb. 1. Three months: The Prineville Hotshot Memorial Run, a 10K run and 5K run/walk and kids run that will be held at Ochoco Creek Park in Prineville on May 12. Four months: The Dirty Half Marathon, which will be held on the Phil’s Trail system on the west side of Bend on June 10. Registration costs $40, and the price will increase to $45 after March 31. To sign up or learn more, visit www.footzonebend.com/happenings/dirty-half.

Five months: The Deschutes Dash Multi Sports Festival, which be held in the Old Mill District in Bend on July 14. The event will include an array of triathlons, running races, aquabike races (a swim and cycling combo) and duathlons (run-bike-run). Registration costs between $30 and $130, depending on the event entered, and fees will increase starting April 1. See a full list of events at http://deschutesdash.com/.

Six months: The MAC Dash Sprint Triathlon, which will be held at the Madras Aquatic Center on Aug. 11. The triathlon, which includes a 500-yard pool swim, 12-mile bike ride and 3-mile run, can be completed as an individual or as a member of a team. Registration costs $45 for individuals and $35 per person for those who are competing as a member of a team. The Mini and Middle MAC Dashes, for kids 10-and-und and 11-14, respectively, are free. Seven months: The Under Armour Mountain Running series stop at Mount Bachelor, which will include 50K, 25K, 10K and 5K races on Sept. 15. Entry varies from $39 for the 5K to $99 for the 50K. The series will also include stops at Copper Mountain, Colorado, on July 14 and Killington, Vermont, on Aug. 25. More information is available at www.uamountainrunning.com.
