A Bend man was arrested Sunday evening for attacking his roommmate with a hammer.
Shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a reported assault on the 64000 block of the old Bend-Redmond Highway. They learned that 34-year-old Matthew Planteen and his alleged victim, 63-year-old Terry Trask, were roommates and had had a disagreement Saturday about Planteen moving out.
Planteen allegedly attacked Trask with a hammer at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday while Trask was asleep in bed. Planteen then dragged Trask around the house while continuing to hit him with the hammer, according to the sheriff’s office. Trask eventually gained access to his phone and called friends at about 4 p.m. When they arrived, Trask’s friends called 911 and held Planteen at bay with a baseball bat until deputies arrived.
Trask was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with serious injuries. Planteen was arrested and taken to the Deschutes County Jail. He is being held on handful of charges that include attempted murder, first-degree assault and kidnapping, according to a press release from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
