Anyone who pays attention to our local music scene knows the generosity of its artists. On Tuesday, the community will come together at Volcanic Theatre Pub to once again help out one of its own: music educator and Moon Mountain Ramblers violinist Jenny Harada Wasson, who is undergoing chemotherapy for non-Hodgkins lymphoma. The event, spearheaded by Volcanic, local promoter Parallel 44 Presents and acoustic soul group Tone Red, will feature performances by Tone Red and Moon Mountain as well as an auction, with all proceeds going toward Wasson’s medical bills. People can also donate via GoFundMe at http://bit.ly/BBBenefitForJenny.
Wasson has been in good spirits and is still performing with Moon Mountain, said the band’s lead vocalist and guitarist Matthew “Mai” Hyman. The rootsy quintet most recently played McMenamins Old St. Francis School on Feb. 7.
“I can tell that there’s so much community support and stuff,” Hyman said. “Even when we mentioned it the other night (at McMenamins), a lot of people that had been through a similar lymphomic cancer came up and chatted with Jenny and were giving her a little perspective on the whole process, which was kind of cool to see — these cured, healthy people cheering her on.”
Another benefit show for Wasson is being planned for sometime in April at Broken Top Bottle Shop. As always, stay tuned.
