A state police certification board has announced additional disciplinary measures for two former Deschutes County corrections deputies.

The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training this week announced the findings of its quarterly review panel.

Brandon Szabo’s certification will be revoked for life for dishonesty. Szabo worked in the corrections wing of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office from December 2007 until he resigned while under internal investigation in July 2017.

Robert Trono, who worked in the Deschutes County jail from July 2002 until his he was fired in April 2017, will have his police certification revoked for 10 years for “gross misconduct” and “misuse of authority.”

Trono was put on paid administrative in September 2016 following a U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigation into a report that he was building a firearm for a co-worker without a federal firearms license. That investigation found Trono’s actions were not prosecutable. Deschutes County Sheriff Shane Nelson said the policy violations for which Trono was fired were uncovered during the investigation, but were not directly related.

A former Warm Springs Police Department officer, Robert Gilham, also had his certification revoked for life for dishonesty.

DPSST certification is required to work as a law enforcement officer in Oregon. Agencies in other states also have access to DPSST’s revocation information.

A total of 11 certifications were revoked this quarter.
