SISTERS — A fast start and a strong finish helped Sisters defeat Sutherlin 48-42 Friday night and clinch the Sky-Em League boys basketball title.
The Outlaws (9-1 Sky-Em, 16-8 overall) also secured the league’s automatic bid to the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs.
Three Sisters players scored in double figures, as Ty Horner led the way with 14 points. Zach Anderson added 13 points and Noah Richards finished with 12 for the Outlaws.
Sisters raced to a 14-5 lead after the first quarter, but Sutherlin stormed back to get within one point, 20-19, by halftime. Late in the game, the Outlaws were able to get some baskets against the Bulldogs’ full-court press to help secure the victory — and the league championship.
“It was a heck of a game,” said Sisters coach David Godfrey. “Two evenly matched teams. Our kids hung in there. We defended well and made the plays we needed. It was really back-and-forth. We hit a few shots when they were pressing us to increase our lead in the fourth quarter.”
