Bend’s Lawrence takes 4th at USATF indoor championships

Mel Lawrence, 28 and of Bend, finished fourth in the women’s 3,000-meter run in 9 minutes, 10.55 seconds at the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Saturday.
Shelby Houlihan, 25, who won the women’s 2-mile run at the 2017 championships, won the 3,000 in 9:00.08. Katie Mackey was second in 9:01.68 and Emma Coburn third in 9:01.85. Lawrence ran her personal best of 8:50.96 in the 3,000 earlier this month at the Millrose Games in New York, where she finished eighth.
