Tri-Valley Conference girls basketball champion Madras and Sky-Em League boys champ Sisters earned automatic berths to the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs, which are scheduled for March 2-3.

The conference champions in 4A bypassed the play-in round to secure spots in the state playoffs, while the second- and third-place teams will compete in this weekend’s play-in round. The final rankings froze Wednesday night.

The Madras girls finished the regular season No. 9 in the OSAA rankings and, with a 21-2 record, recorded the second-most wins in 4A this season en route to the program’s seventh playoff appearance in eight years. Madras, which looks to advance to the state tournament for the fourth time since 2011, will host a first-round game March 2. In the 4A boys playoffs, 13th-ranked Sisters (16-8) won the Sky-Em championship and will host a first-round game March 3.

Two other Central Oregon teams are in the boys play-in round, which is scheduled to be played on or before Saturday: Madras (12-11), which was second in the Tri-Valley Conference, will host Tillamook, which is 15-9 and placed fourth in the Cowapa League, and Crook County, No. 3 in the TVC, takes its 10-13 record to Beaverton to face Cowapa’s third-place team, Valley Catholic (18-6).
