If you watched the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics this year, chances are you noticed the leather gloves worn by the U.S. team as it entered the stadium. Love them or hate them, the gloves made a big splash on social media, and anyone wanting a pair for themselves were informed at the Ralph Lauren website that they were sold out — at the cost of $995 a pair.
OK, so maybe you didn’t want them that badly anyway.
But if you’re going for a similar look, the Burton Work Horse Leather Mitt will keep you just as warm and only set you back $40.
These sturdy mittens have a cow-hide exterior covering the shell and palm, making them great for getting things done in the cold without having to worry about nylon ripping apart. They stand up to any old-school rope tows on the slopes, and they are an excellent option for backcountry adventures. The fleece lining will keep your hands warm and comfortable no matter how you use them. A removable wrist leash is included to help you keep the mittens handy when removing them to clean your goggles or, probably more important nowadays, take a selfie.
