Police are looking for two juveniles who walked away from a boarding school for young male offenders on Thursday.
The boys ran away from the J Bar J Boy’s Ranch, confirmed Deschutes County sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. William Bailey.
Police were initially told by 911 callers that the boys had escaped from the Deschutes County Juvenile Division. Bailey said deputies would have pursued the boys more seriously were they escapees from juvenile justice.
“We’re looking for them,” he said. “We’re not chasing them.”
As of Friday afternoon the youths still had not been located.
J Bar J is a therapeutic boarding school for young male offenders ages 13-18, offering an alternative to placement in a state facility.
As a sub-contractor to the Oregon Youth Authority, the Ranch also serves boys who are ordered by the court to complete a rehabilitation program.
A call to J Bar J was not returned.
