A 25-year-old Redmond man wanted on a felony warrant tried to avoid arrest Monday afternoon by driving away from detectives in an SUV, but he struck a curb, causing the vehicle to roll over.

Randy Lee Cooper then allegedly climbed through a broken passenger window and ran east near the 2200 block of SW 19th Street, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. He attempted to climb over a residential fence when a detective caught up to him and arrested him, the sheriff’s office said.

During a search of Cooper’s 2000 Ford Explorer, detectives found a loaded .22-caliber revolver.

Cooper was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, reckless endangering, attempting to elude, second-degree criminal trespassing, third-degree criminal mischief and a parole violation.

Cooper was taken to St. Charles Redmond for evaluation due to minor injuries he received during the rollover crash, according to the sheriff’s office.

He was then booked into Deschutes County jail.
