BASEBALL
Beavers still unbeaten — Nick Madrigal and Cadyn Grenier had three hits apiece to lead a 17-hit Oregon State attack, and Luke Heimlich allowed two hits over 61⁄3 innings to earn the victory Thursday in the Beavers’ 9-1 win over Nebraska in Surprise, Arizona. Oregon State improved to 5-0 with the win. Madrigal’s day featured a solo home run in the third inning that gave Oregon State a 2-0 lead. The Beavers will look to go 6-0 for the first time since a 15-0 start in 2013 when they take on Ohio State today at Surprise Stadium.

Beavers take first 2 of Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic — Oregon State’s Michelle Sass came through with a two-out, two RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie, and the Beavers went on to beat No. 16 Oklahoma State on Thursday night in Palm Springs, California. Mayu Molina and Missy Nunes scored on Sass’ hit. The Beavers (8-4) led 2-0 in the seventh, but the Cowboys tied things up, pushing the game into extra innings. Meehra Nelson picked up the win in relief to improve to 6-1 on the season. Nerissa Eason pitched the first 61⁄3 innings for Oregon State, allowing two earned runs on seven hits while walking three. Chance Burden and Jessica Garcia all had two hits for the Beavers. OSU had a much easier time with Bethune-Cookman in the second half of its doubleheader, cruising to an 11-2 win. Garcia had two RBIs and Nunes homered for the Beavers. Mariah Mazon allowed two earned runs over six innings to improve to 3-3.
