Looking ahead to Central Oregon community sports

Six weeks: The Salmon Run, a half marathon, 10K, 5K and “Little Fry” children’s race in Bend’s Old Mill District on April 8. Entry costs $40 for the half, $35 for the 10K, $30 for the 5K and $5 for the kids’ race. More information is available online at http://bendraces.com/salmon-run/.

Two months: The Sisters Better Half Marathon, which will be held at Village Green Park in Sisters on April 28. Participants can enter the half marathon, a quarter marathon (6.55 miles) or a half marathon relay in which both partners run 6.55 miles. Proceeds benefit the Sisters High School swim team. Entry costs $35 for the quarter marathon, $50 for the half and $60 for the relay, and the price will increase on March 10. To learn more, visit www.sistershalfmarathon.com.

Three months: The Sisters Stampede, 11- and 26-mile cross-country mountain bike races on the Peterson Ridge Trail system outside of Sisters. Registration costs $50 for adults and $20 for juniors, and the price will increase starting April 1. For more details or to sign up, visit https://sistersstampede.com.

Four months: The Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival, which will include 20 multisport and running races in Sunriver and the surrounding area on June 22-24. Entry fees vary widely depending on the event, but registration details are available at http://whyracingevents.com/event/989/.

Five months: The Cascade Lakes Swim Series, five open-water swim races ranging in distance from 500 to 5,000 meters held at Elk Lake on July 27-29. The 5K race will double at the US Masters Swimming National Open Water Championship. The event is open to swimmers 18 and older. Six months: The Beat Beethoven’s 5th 5K, a fundraiser for the Central Oregon Symphony in which racers attempt to finish a 5K before Beethoven’s 5th Symphony concludes (that’s about 33 minutes). The race starts on the COCC track in Bend on Aug. 25. Registration for the 5K and 1-mile run/walk will be available at www.beatbeethoven5k.com starting Thursday.

Seven months: The Oregon 12/24, a 12-hour or 24-hour relay (or individual, if that’s your style) mountain bike race that will be held on an 11-mile loop at Wanoga Sno-park on Sep. 29 and 30. Registration costs $40 to $500, depending on the race and division entered, and is available at http://oregonmtb24.com/.
