Central Oregon builders and real estate brokers together raised more than $760,000 to benefit construction of new facilities at Bethlehem Inn, the emergency homeless shelter announced Tuesday in a news release.

The Central Oregon Builders Association raised a larger share of the total, but the Central Oregon Association of Realtors generated a larger number of givers. The builders won bragging rights and top billing on a sign going up near the new buildings, according to the Bethlehem Inn news release.

“They started in July; they took the task and did a pretty phenomenal job,” Bethlehem Inn Executive Director Gwenn Wysling said Tuesday.

Two-thirds was raised by Central Oregon Builders Association, with 41 donations, and one-third by Central Oregon Association of Realtors, with 112 donations, Wysling wrote in an email.

The builder and Realtor campaign brought the Bethlehem Inn within $2 million of its $9 million goal for the fundraising campaign, she said. The Bethlehem Inn expects to have 90 percent of its goal raised by June, when the first new building, an 18,100-square-foot family residence and service hub is complete at 3705 N. U.S. Highway 97 in Bend, Wysling said.
