Year after year, the Sisters Folk Festival organization’s musical education program in Sisters schools, the Americana Project, injects the local music scene with fresh talent.
Fans will get a chance to check out some of this talent at the free Celebration of Song concert at The Belfry on Sunday. The show culminates the annual Americana Song Academy for Youth, the kids version of the songwriting workshop that takes place before the folk festival every year. According to Brad Tisdel, the organization’s creative director, this year’s academy includes nearly 40 kids from Central Oregon, California and Colorado, as well as 15 staff members and 12 instructors drawn from the local scene — including many Americana Project alumni.
Looking ahead to the festival, which takes place Sept. 7 through 9: Amy Helm and Robbie Fulks, who were slated to perform at last year’s canceled event, have been announced for this year.
The festival invited all of last year’s scheduled performers back this year, and so far the festival has booked almost 40 acts, including at least 30 performers from last year, according to Tisdel.
Stay tuned for a full lineup announcement in the coming weeks.
Celebration of Song: 7 p.m. Sunday, doors open at 6:30 p.m.; free; The Belfry, 302 E. Main Ave., Sisters; sistersfolkfestival.org or 541-549-4979.
