MADRAS — Lynden Harry’s half-court heave just missed the mark Friday night, leaving Madras three points short in a 60-57 Class 4A girls basketball playoff loss to Valley Catholic.

The result ended a 14-game winning streak for the White Buffaloes and provided a disappointing end to a 21-3 season for the Tri-Valley Conference champions.

“We gave up too many offensive rebounds and too many second chances,” said Madras coach Zach Lillebo. “But I won’t question the heart of my kids … they played their hearts out.”

Valley Catholic, the No. 9 seed, led by three points in the final seconds but missed the front end of a one-and-one opportunity and No. 8 Madras grabbed the rebound and called a timeout with 2.1 seconds remaining. Harry, who finished with a team-high 21 points, raced up the sideline and launched a shot from near midcourt, but the ball went off the backboard and then off the front of the rim as time expired.

Jayden Davis made three 3-pointers and finished with 19 points along with six rebounds for the White Buffaloes. Kaliyah Iverson had nine points and eight rebounds, Alseha Freeman had 10 rebounds, and Harry added 10 rebounds and four assists.

Valley Catholic (20-6) was led by Noelle Mannen with 25 points. The Valiants from Beaverton advance to the 4A state tournament next week at Pacific University in Forest Grove.

Springfield 55, Ridgeview 30: SPRINGFIELD — Ravens coach Shan Hartford described Springfield’s defense as “the best we’ve played against this season.” The disciplined defense of the No. 4-seeded Millers knocked No. 13 Ridgeview out of its rhythm throughout the Class 5A first-round matchup, as Springfield (22-3) used a third-quarter surge to race away from the Ravens. Rylee Troutman led Ridgeview (15-11) with eight points and 11 rebounds, and Aspen Jeter added seven points. The Millers advance to Tuesday’s quarterfinals at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, while the Ravens’ season came to a close.
