When Brothers Gow returns to Bend to play Volcanic Theatre Pub next week, it will do so as a much different band than it was at its last performance in the city, almost a year ago at the Domino Room. In November, keyboardist/vocalist Alex Gow Bastine, bassist Carson Church and lighting designer Matt Collier amicably parted ways with the California-based (by way of Flagstaff, Arizona,) funk/rock/jam outfit. After a winter of woodshedding, songwriting and lineup reconfigurations — Ethan Wade is now on bass, Kyle Merrill handles most of the lead vocals and newcomer Alex Mello took over keyboard duties — the now-quartet has emerged with a leaner, meaner but no less musically challenging sound (judging from a video/recording of a riff-happy, hard-charging new song “1781” that was posted to the band’s Facebook page last month). Hear for yourself Tuesday.
Brothers Gow: 9 p.m. Tuesday; $10 plus fees in advance, $12 at the door; Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Drive, Bend; volcanictheatrepub.com or 541-323-1881.
