Storm claim combined title

MOUNT BACHELOR — In placing sixth in the girls slalom race on Thunderbird run Friday, Keely Buchanan took fifth in the giant slalom-slalom combined standings to help Summit claim the combined team title at the Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing Association state championship at Mt. Bachelor ski area on Friday.

Summit, an Oregon School Ski Association member which was permitted to compete as a “temporary member school” of the OISRA, posted a team time of 9 minutes, 18.18 seconds to defeat second-place Hood River Valley by 4.28 seconds.

Also for Summit, Olivia Pulliam was eighth in the giant slalom to finish eighth in the combined rankings. The Storm finished second in the slalom standings with a time of 5:02.18, while Ashland was first with 5:01.72. Oregon Episcopal’s Samantha Woodring took first in both the slalom and the combined.

In the boys giant slalom competition Friday, Ty Zuber placed sixth to lead Summit to fourth place with a time of 5:20.23. Zuber was fifth in the combined standings with a time of 2:55.60, and the Storm were third as a team in 9:20.57. Lakeridge topped the standings in both the slalom (5:05.38) and the combined (8:51.23).

On Thursday, also on the Thunderbird run, Buchanan took third in the girls giant slalom with a time of 1:23.97, finishing .21 seconds behind runner-up Cailin Gahan of Wilsonville and .71 seconds behind overall winner Woodring of Oregon Episcopal. Pulliam was ninth for Summit, which was second as a team with a time of 4:16.00. Hood River Valley placed first in 4:13.87.

For the boys, who competed in slalom, Zuber was third in 1:13.91, helping Summit place third as a team with a time of 4:00.34. Lakeridge placed first in 3:45.85, followed by Central Catholic in 3:51.62.
