College notes

• Ellis Hayes Johnson, of Bend, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2017 semester at Dickinson College. To qualify for the dean’s list at Dickinson, a student must earn a GPA of at least 3.7 or higher. He is the son of Michael and Riva Johnson.

High school notes

• Gabe Reed, a senior at Summit High School, won first place in Open Lincoln Douglas Debate, earning the highest speaker points of 29 competitors in the category, and Top Overall Debater, earning the highest total speaker points of 108 debate competitors, at the University of Oregon Robert D. Clark Invitational Speech and Debate tournament held in February. He also won second place of 17 competitors in the Open Poetry category. In a different competition, Gabe won a silver medal and a $500 cash prize in piano at the finals of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s 24th Annual Young Artist Competition held in February. He is the son of Bill and Lura Reed, of Bend.

Middle school notes

• Raquel Hernandez, a Family Access Network advocate at Pilot Butte Middle School, has been honored by Bend-La Pine Schools as Outstanding Support Person of the Year.
