MBSEF skiers win relay at junior nationals

SOLDIER HOLLOW, Utah — Bend skiers Annie McColgan and Isabel and Fiona Max won the Junior Women 14-15 3×3.3K relay at the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association cross-country Junior National championships Saturday in 38 minutes, 23.2 seconds. The three Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation skiers beat a trio of skiers from Alaskan clubs by 3.1 seconds.

McColgan took All-American honors by finishing in the top 10 in two other races during the national meet in Soldier Hollow, Utah, which started March 3 and concludes Sunday. McColgan finished eighth in both the Junior Women 14-15 5K classic race on Tuesday and the 5K freestyle on Friday. MBSEF’s Sarah Kilroy and Isabel Max finished seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 1.4K sprint on Wednesday.

Another MBSEF skier, Lydia Youkey, took seventh in the Junior Women 18-19 10K freestyle in 31:51.3 on Friday. Youkey was also a member of a 3×3.3K team that took eighth in its age division.

MBSEF skiers Hunter Greene and Will Lange teamed up with Samuel Schoderbek of Bend Endurance Academy to place eighth in the Junior Men 16-17 3×3.3K relay in 27:41.1 on Saturday, and Trevor Allison of BEA and Mario Cacciola of MBSEF finished ninth in the same race. MBSEF’s Albert Hesse and his relay teammates took ninth in the Junior Men 18-19 relay, and Max Nye of MBSEF and Jack Conde of BEA finished ninth in the Junior Men 14-15 relay. Gemma Munck and Olivia Colton, both MBSEF skiers, took 10th in the Junior Women 16-17 relay.

MBSEF girls earned 294 points during the championship week and the boys earned four. Their combined total of 298 put the club in 13th place in team standings.

Broken down by high school, Summit skiers finished eighth overall, and Bend High skiers were just behind in ninth place.
