In 2016, famed progressive rock drummer Carl Palmer lost both his Emerson, Lake and Palmer bandmates: Keith Emerson’s death was ruled a suicide, while Greg Lake died of cancer. Then, in early 2017, his bandmate in Asia, singer-bassist John Wetton, also died of cancer. But if there’s a silver lining to all this tragedy, it’s that Palmer has been on the road for more than a year now with new power trio Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy, featuring guitarist Paul Bielatowicz and bassist Simon Fitzpatrick. As its name suggests, the trio has been reinventing ELP’s instrumental music with new arrangements in tribute to Emerson and Lake. (ELP itself played its last show in 2010.) Palmer and company play the Tower Theatre on Sunday.
Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy: 7:30 p.m. Sunday; $27, $37 or $47 plus theater preservation fee; Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St., Bend; towertheatre.org or 541-317-0700.
