- Summer Fun in Redmond
Redmond Area Park and Recreation District (RAPRD) has a 40-year history of bringing recreation, education, and enrichment programs to the greater Redmond area. Our mission is to promote a healthy, vibrant and engaged community by providing excellent recreation and enrichment opportunities for all. We offer opportunities for all ages, interests and abilities.
RAPRD operates the Cascade Swim Center and RAPRD Activity Center. At the pool, we offer everything from swimming lessons and recreation swim to aquatic wellness programs and lap swim. The Activity Center offers a full gym, with weights, cardio equipment, and group fitness classes with certified instructors. Our recreation programming also includes sports camps, arts and crafts classes, open gyms, and youth sports leagues.
We are always thinking up new programs for you and your family to try throughout the year, like dance, horseback riding, tennis, mountain biking, martial arts, and day camps to keep kids active and engaged all summer.
For working families we offer a couple day camp options. Our camp leaders go above and beyond a typical day-care setting by getting down and dirty with the kids. Our leaders are involved in every activity, modeling creativity, kindness, sportsmanship, and experiential learning.
Camp Adventure Quest is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 21 to Aug. 24. This program provides full days of fun activities for kids in grades K–5. Our leaders choose weekly themes like Paradise Island and Weird Science to guide group learning and enrichment activities.
With the help of a great grant, we’ve been able to fill our Adventure Quest classrooms with fun STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) games and learning materials. Adventure Quest kids can now try everything from robots to circuitry to coding and construction. We pack each day full of age-appropriate crafts, games, hikes, swimming, and so much more. Our Summer Activity Club is offered Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Sam Johnson Park for the weeks that Camp Adventure Quest isn’t open.
Join us for STEM Saturdays on the first Saturday of each month. Each one will feature great projects such as bottle cars, bottle rockets and a catapult for kids to design and build. RAPRD has also partnered with Youth Tech, INC to offer interactive computer camps where participants will learn about animation, video game design and coding.
We are swim lessons and recreation swim and fitness and wellness classes, but we are also programmable robots and learning physics through bottle rockets and problem solving by building forts from PVC pipe! We are creating complete circuits and chain reactions and catapults, hiking through parks and then making art with the pieces of nature we find. We love to keep Redmond minds and hands busy all year, and in the summer, we shine!
