Hawks open season with romp over Outlaws

LA PINE — After having several games postponed, La Pine finally got its 2018 softball season off the ground Monday with an 11-1 nonleague home win over Sisters.
Josey Hawkins allowed just one hit — a fifth-inning double by Anessa Stotts — and struck out four for the complete-game victory. The Hawks put the game away via the 10-run rule with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Angela Cardonia had three of La Pine’s 14 hits. Also for the Hawks (1-0), Kiah Toepfer hit two doubles and a single and knocked in three runs, SueAnn Marsh had three singles and an RBI, and McKenzie Walsworth drove in three with a double and a single.
Sisters (1-1) committed four errors and trailed 8-0 after two innings.

Sisters 15, Thurston 3: SPRINGFIELD — Kaylee Huber, Olivia Hougham, Ellie Cook, Mia Cook and Sydney Head scored two goals apiece to power the Outlaws to the nonleague win. Goalie Maklia Lajko made four saves, and Josie Aylor had three ground balls and three caused turnovers to lead the defense for Sisters (3-1). Houghham also had three ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control.

Rohde paces Hawks: SALEM — Tommy Rohde shot a 39-39—78 to lead three La Pine players in action in a noncounting league match at Creekside Golf Club. Also for the Hawks, Jeremy Smith shot a 118 and Triton Notary shot a 138.
