Panthers name new football coach — Redmond High has hired Brent Wasche as its new football coach. Wasche comes to Central Oregon from Texas, where he has coached at four high schools, including his latest stop at Lampasas High in Fort Worth. Wasche, who was also has also been an assistant at Port Angeles High in Washington, went to high school in Texas and played football at North Texas. Previous stops for Wasche, 38, include serving as defensive coordinator, linebackers coach and specials teams coach. The new Panthers head coach replaces Gene Dales, who coached Redmond to a 1-6 record in Class 5A Special District 1 play and 1-8 overall in his only season last fall.

Football coach hired at Ridgeview — Ridgeview High has named Patrick Pileggi its new football coach. Pileggi recently served as the offensive coordinator at Sprague High School, a Class 6A program in Salem that advanced to the second round of the state playoffs this past fall. A graduate of and former lineman at Regis High and Western Oregon University, Pileggi, 36, takes over for Andy Codding, who was Ridgeview’s head coach since the school opened in 2012. Over six seasons, Codding guided the Ravens to a 28-32 record and two postseason appearances, including the Class 4A state championship in 2013.

Crook County product earns all-America status — Nebraska junior Tyler Berger, a 2014 graduate of Crook County High, placed third at 157 pounds at the NCAA wrestling national championships in Cleveland last week to earn all-America status for the second straight season. A four-time high school state champion while at Hermiston and Crook County, the No. 8-seeded Berger advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to the top seed by one point. He then won four straight matches, including the last over No. 6 Michael Kemerer of Iowa, to take third place. Now a three-time national championships qualifier, Berger was fifth at the national tourney in 2017.
