A Prineville man was arrested Sunday for allegedly stealing more than $10,000 worth of copper wire and other copper material from an old mill property.
Prineville Police arrested Steven L. Woods, 40, as he left the old Woodgrain Mill at 1948 N. Main St. Police had been investigating Woods for about two weeks in connection with multiple thefts at the property.
Woods was booked in Crook County Jail on the charges of first-degree aggravated theft, second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass, tampering with evidence, second-degree theft and second-degree criminal mischief.
On Monday, Prineville Police and the Crook County Sheriff’s Office searched a single-wide trailer on Northwest Terrace Lane, where both Woods and his friend, Amanda Wiederholt, were living.
During the search, officers found heroin and numerous items related to the copper thefts.
Items seized from the search include various amounts of copper wire, a large amount of stripped copper wire insulation, stolen tools, copper fittings, mill equipment, and user amounts of drug paraphernalia. The value of the stolen property is estimated at more than $10,000.
Prineville Police is attempting to find Wiederholt as a person of interest in its investigation.
