Bend’s consistency secures win at Eagle Crest

REDMOND — Depth once again proved key for Bend High on Thursday afternoon, as five Lava Bears placed in the top seven at the Iron Maiden to lead the team to a first-place finish at the girls golf tournament at Eagle Crest’s Challenge Course.
Kaylie Hayes was runner-up with a 5-over par 68 for Bend, which posted a 301 to defeat second-place Summit by 29 strokes. Also for the Bears, Grace West was third with a 73, and Virginia Felder (78), Bailee Carpenter (82) and Megan McCleary (83) went 5-6-7.
The Storm’s Olivia Loberg used four birdies on the back nine, including three in a four-hole span, to ride to a 1-under 62 and medalist honors. Sophia Dalfonsi was fourth with a 77 for Summit, which recorded a 330 as a team, and Rainie Codding tied for 10th with a 90.
Crook County’s Macy Goehring placed eighth with an 85, Ridgeview’s Sage Schull was ninth with an 89, and Mountain View’s Morgan Hoisington tied for 10th with a 90.

Summit 17, Mountain View 3: With Wolf Meckem racking up four hits and five RBIs, Summit opened Intermountain Conference play with a five-inning victory. Logan Peterson had three hits and three RBIs for Summit (1-0, 1-3), and Evan Scalley had three hits. Mountain View dropped to 0-1 in the IMC and 0-4 overall.
Sisters 10, Crook County 0: PRINEVILLE — Austin Morss shut out the Cowboys for six innings, as the Outlaws cruised to a six-inning nonconference win. Hunter Sport had three hits and four RBIs for Sisters (2-2), and Turner Stuzman had two hits and two RBIs. Heath Pickhardt paced Crook County (1-2) with two hits.
La Pine 14, Lakeview 2: LA PINE — The Hawks’ Wyatt DeForest allowed two runs in the first inning but held off the Honkers for two more innings and struck out five to lead La Pine to a nonconference win. In relief, Adam Plant shut out Lakeview and ceded just two hits in two innings for the Hawks. Eddie Price doubled and had three RBIs for La Pine (3-0), and Ben Plant knocked in two runs. Angelo Roes had an RBI double, and Riley Pinckney went 2-for-3.
Softball
Crook County 27-26, Sisters 5-0: SISTERS — The Cowgirls piled up 53 runs on 40 hits to sweep a nonconference doubleheader. In the opener, Caitlyn Elliott had a three-run home run for Crook County, which racked up nine extra-base hits in the game. The Cowgirls (4-2) blasted three homers in the second game, one apiece by Abby Dalton, Liz Barker and Justine Brinkley. In the circle, Crook County’s Brooke Dalton fanned 10 and allowed just three hits.
La Pine 7, Lakeview 4: LA PINE — The Hawks drew three walks and followed with two hits to go ahead 4-0 in the third inning en route to a nonconference win. La Pine pitcher Josey Hawkins held the Honkers scoreless until a three-run fifth inning, and Hawkins helped her own cause by driving in two runs. McKenzie Walsworth had three hits for the Hawks (2-0), and Cheyenne Saul had two hits and two RBIs.
Boys lacrosse
Churchill 11, Sisters 7: EUGENE — Ethan Morgan had three goals and an assist, Trey Stadeli added two scores and an assist, but the Outlaws fell in nonconference play for their first loss of the season. Jared Richerson and Jake Pilarski each had a goal for Sisters (2-1), and Casey Warburton had 17 saves in goal.
