A La Pine dog breeder has been charged with two counts of felony animal neglect after animal welfare officials and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office last week seized 53 dogs from her property.
Pamela G. Kyler, 63, was cited for first-degree and second-degree animal neglect.
Kyler, who runs Kyler’s Field and Marsh Kennels, a breeder of Labradors and German short-haired pointers, cooperated with investigators and released ownership of the 53 dogs to the Humane Society of Central Oregon.
Sheriff’s office deputies responded March 16 to the property on the 51000 block of Ash Road in La Pine to perform a welfare check on multiple dogs. Deputies observed the dogs were not being properly cared for.
One female dog was taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment, but has since been euthanized, according to the sheriff’s office. In addition, two puppies from the female dog are being cared for at the Humane Society of Central Oregon, but their prognosis is uncertain.
Evaluating the dogs took all night March 16 and all day March 17. The breeds include Labradors, German short-hairs and dachshunds.
There were so many dogs that the Humane Society did not have enough kennel space and turned over 22 dogs to the Oregon Humane Society in Portland, which picked up them March 17.
Remaining dogs healthy enough to be adopted are available at the Bend shelter along with 18 at the Portland shelter.
