Bend man killed in Highway 97 crash

A Bend man was killed early Sunday morning in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 97 2 miles north of Bend.
According to a release from Oregon State Police, a 2005 Ford Explorer was traveling south on the highway when it was hit head-on by a 2017 GMC truck at about 3:30 a.m. The 39-year-old truck driver was dead at the scene and the driver of the Explorer was taken by air ambulance to St. Charles Bend with life-threatening injuries.
The drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles. The crash and resulting investigation closed the highway for several hours Sunday morning.
