Former Coug earns accolades — Simmons College freshman Ivy Vann, a 2017 graduate of Bend’s Mountain View High, has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball rookie of the week. Vann, an outfielder for the NCAA Division-III Sharks in Boston, was 5-for-12 with two triples and an RBI in four games last week. The former Cougar has started all 12 games for Simmons this season and is hitting .343.
Locals selected to football showcase — Four seniors from Bend have been selected to play in the 71st Les Schwab Bowl at Hillsboro Stadium. The annual North-versus-South matchup features some of the top graduating seniors from around the state, representing schools from Class 6A, 5A and 4A. Linemen Reed Sehorn-Hurst, Riley Straly and Rylee Ettinger — all from Mountain View — were chosen to play for the South team, as was Summit lineman Noah Turnbull. The Cougars’ Brian Crum was selected as an assistant coach along with Redmond High graduate and Churchill coach A.J. Robinson. The all-star game is scheduled for June 16 at 6 p.m. For ticket prices or for more information, visit www.lesschwabbowl.com.
