Seahawks release backup QB Boykin — The Seattle Seahawks released third-year quarterback Trevone Boykin on Tuesday after a Dallas TV station reported he is being investigated for assaulting his girlfriend following an incident last week in Texas. The report from WFAA-TV detailed an alleged assault last week that left Shabrika Bailey with her jaw broken on both sides. The TV station reported that police in Mansfield, Texas, were investigating the allegations. Boykin is expected to be charged with aggravated assault, a felony, TMZ reported. It is the third time he has been arrested or investigated since December 2015, and the second time during his Seahawks career. Boykin was signed by Seattle as an undrafted free agent following the 2016 NFL draft.

Louisville hires Xavier’s Mack — Louisville has found its new men’s basketball coach, tapping Xavier’s Chris Mack to guide the program after a turbulent season in which the Cardinals were linked to a federal investigation and eventually missed the NCAA Tournament. Multiple reports say that the school has hired Mack and a person familiar with the situation confirmed that Mack, 48, is Louisville’s choice. Mack led Xavier to a 29-6 record and the school’s first-ever No. 1 tournament seeding this season. He was 215-97 in nine seasons at his alma mater. Mack takes over for David Padgett, who went 22-14 last season as Louisville’s interim coach after the school fired Rick Pitino in the wake of a federal corruption investigation of college basketball.

Dusty Baker returns to Giants — One of the organization’s most popular managers, Dusty Baker, is rejoining the San Francisco Giants nearly 16 years after his departure. The 68-year-old Baker, who was fired as skipper of the Washington Nationals after last season, will serve as a special adviser to CEO Larry Baer working in both the baseball and business operations of the club. Baker managed the Giants from 1993 to 2002, when the club lost to the wild-card Anaheim Angels in Game 7 of the World Series after squandering Game 6. After leaving the Giants, Baker went on to manage the Chicago Cubs for four seasons before a stint with the Cincinnati Reds from 2008 to 2013 and then two years as Nationals skipper, leading Washington to a pair of National League East titles.
