James ”Jim” Taylor

Jim Taylor passed away March 15, 2018, of natural causes, at the age of 78. He was surrounded by family and knew he was much loved.

Jim was born in Corvallis, Oregon, on November 27, 1939, to Silas P. Taylor and Maxine (Waymire) Taylor. He was youngest of four children.

He attended school in Crook County and graduated in the class of 1957. On September 3, 1960, Jim married the love of his life, Shirley Osborn in Prineville.

Jim worked for the State Highway Department as a surveyor, which moved him to various locations in the state. In 1961, they had a daughter, Jamie in Prineville. Later, in 1967, while living in The Dalles, their son, Rodney was born. In 1971, Jim started to work for the US Postal Service. He transferred to the Bend Post Office in 1973 and moved his family to Bend. Jim continued to work for the Post Office until retiring after 32 years.

Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Jamie Burleigh (Tim Burleigh) of Madras; and son, Rodney Taylor (Lisa Coats Taylor) of Tumalo. Also surviving are one granddaughter, Ashley Taylor; and one great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Chadis.

The outdoors played an important role in Jim’s life. He loved to fish, hunt and roam the high desert. He taught many children how to catch a fish and shoot a gun. Buck 1 and Buck 2, his two yellow labs, were always by his side. He was an avid card player and he enjoyed Cribbage tournaments and family Pinochle games. Jim was an generous man who treated everyone as a special friend. He will be missed.

Burial services for Jim Taylor will be Saturday, March 24, 2018, at 1:00 pm in Mitchell, Oregon, at the Upper Osborn Cemetery. All who knew and loved Jim are welcome.
