The Crook County School District Board of Directors has selected Sara Johnson as its next superintendent effective July 1.

A tentative contract is in the works and will be finalized at the next board meeting on April 5. Johnson, 56, of Klamath Falls, will succeed current superintendent Duane Yecha, who will retire at the end of the school year.

“It’s time to learn all about Crook County School District and see what we can do to sustain the good things that are going on and address the things we want to get better,” Johnson said. “They have good a administration, a good school board and good staff so I am eager to see where we want to go.”

Johnson has served the last two years as the director of assessment, equity and school improvement for Klamath County School District, which has about 6,500 students. Before that, she spent three years as superintendent of Sumner School District in Sumner, Washington, and four years as assistant superintendent and director of human resources in Lincoln County.

Johnson has a doctorate in educational leadership from George Fox University and a master’s degree in teaching education from Eastern Oregon University.

The school board received 26 applications for the superintendent position and narrowed the search down to two finalists earlier this month.
