General contractors: New Valley Construction of Arizona, CS Construction
Architect: Lenity Architecture, Salem
Subcontractors: Sunburst Fabrications, Redmond; JKD Construction, Bend; Smith Sheet Metal, Springfield; The Harver Company, Lake Oswego
Details: The three-story steel structure rising prominently to the east of Bend Parkway, behind the Robberson Collision Center, will be self-storage. OR Bend Self-Storage LLC is building the roughly 800 climate-controlled units at 2705 NE Fourth St., said Darcy Koenig of Lenity Architecture in Salem.
The building is designed for storing personal items, and most of the units will be accessible only from the interior, Koenig said.
The building will be operated by a separate entity, CubeSmart, based in Malvern, Pennsylvania, she said.
The construction value of the project was listed at $9.2 million, according to a building permit issued by the city of Bend in November.
The building totals 107,756 square feet, according to documents filed with the Bend Community Development Department.
The units range in size from 50 square feet to 300 square feet, Koenig said. Insulated metal panels will cover the exterior of the building, and windows will be visible from NE Butler Market Road and Fourth Street, she said.
CubeSmart will likely hang a sign visible from parkway, Koenig said.
