December 9, 1926 – November 29, 2017
Audrey Mary Murphy, age 90, of Sisters, Oregon, passed away at St. Charles in Bend, Oregon, on November 29, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, after battling a short illness. Audrey was born on December 9, 1926, in Portland, Oregon, to parents Kay Waters and Cecil “Pop” Waters. They later moved to Seaside, Oregon, where Audrey and her siblings helped their dad run the popcorn stand at the turnaround in Seaside, Oregon.
Audrey married her husband, Donald Murphy, on November 23, 1946. The couple settled in Portland in 1957, where they raised their five children, Larry, Vincent, Shawn, Kevin, and Lori. Audrey and Don later moved to Sisters, Oregon, in 1977. Don passed July 21, 1981.
Audrey was a devout Catholic and parishioner at St. Edward the Martyr, where she volunteered her time as part of the Altar Society and served as treasurer. Her faith in God provided her with the strength and courage to face the death of her sister, Ann Waters, and beloved sons, Shawn, Vincent, and Larry.
Audrey and her sister, Phyllis, enjoyed traveling together and went on many vacations to Europe. Audrey told many stories of her travels with fond memories. Later in life, Audrey took pleasure in water aerobics, volunteering for the Sister’s Smart Program, and tending to her flowers, which seemed to be a point of contention for her.
Audrey is survived by her children, Kevin Murphy and Lori Murphy; daughters-in-law, Christine Murphy and Ree Murphy; sister, Phyllis Ferschweiler; and brother, Robert Waters; as well as her ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Audrey will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother with a witty personality and love for her family.
Family and friends will gather at St. Edward the Martyr Catholic Church on Saturday, May 19 at 10:00 am, 123 Trinity Way, Sisters, Oregon. Interment will follow in St. Winefride’s Garden of the church.
Memorial donations in memory of Audrey may be made to St. Edward’s Altar Society, Habitat for Humanity, or Sister’s Smart Program.
