A 28-year-old Bend woman is in jail after allegedly hitting her father with her car and spraying him with pepper spray on Easter.
Paul Gilbert, 61, told Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies he had seen his daughter Emmy Gilbert’s white 2003 Volkswagen Jetta drive east by his house on Rocking Horse Road in Bend on Sunday afternoon, so he went out to the roadway to wait for her. She came back westbound, made a wide turn into the driveway and struck him with the car, according to the sheriff’s office.
Emmy Gilbert then continued driving until she struck a fence, causing her father to land on the hood/windshield of the car, deputies reported. He made his way to the front porch, where she sprayed him in the face with pepper spray, according to the report.
After being sprayed in the face, Paul Gilbert ran into his house and Emmy Gilbert chased after him, spraying him in the back of the head, deputies reported. Both Emmy and Paul Gilbert then called Deschutes County 911.
Paramedics from the Bend Fire Department assessed Paul Gilbert at his home but didn’t take him to the hospital. Emmy Gilbert was arrested on charges of assault, menacing, reckless driving, unlawful use of a weapon and criminal mischief and unlawful use of pepper spray and booked into the Deschutes County Jail with bail set at $85,000.
