$1M donated to UO —A former University of Oregon student has donated $1 million to establish a faculty chair in the name of a longtime music professor who died in 1988. The donation from Timothy Foo will receive an additional $1 million match from the Presidential Fund for Excellence, a fund established last year by UO president Michael Schill after receiving a $50 million gift from an anonymous donor. The Edmund A. Cykler Chair will provide an endowment of about $80,000 annually to support research in the School of Music and Dance. Cykler served on the UO faculty from 1947 to 1984.

Elk killed near Silver Falls — Oregon State Police says a poacher shot and killed a bull elk west of Silver Falls State Park. The animal was likely shot during Easter weekend. Its antlers were broken off at the bases and taken; the carcass was left to waste. OSP is asking for the public’s help to find the poacher.

Counterfeit Nike Air Jordans case — A Happy Valley man was sentenced for selling thousands of counterfeit Nike Air Jordan sneakers over a multiyear period through his online retail business. James Pepion says he “got greedy” before being sentenced Wednesday to four months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release for trafficking in counterfeit goods and money laundering. According to court documents, Pepion turned to overseas sellers and began selling imported counterfeits, earning $2.6 million from 2012 through March 2015.
