MADRAS — The start of the Tri-Valley Conference softball season could hardly have gone better for Madras.

After scoring an 8-3 win in their originally scheduled game with Molalla on Monday afternoon, the White Buffaloes pounded out 24 hits to beat the Indians 20-11 in the makeup of an earlier TVC rainout.

Lizzie Steuart pitched a complete game for Madras in the opener, striking out seven while allowing just three hits and one walk. She also was 3-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run and three RBIs. Delaney Vibbert had two hits and Jiana Smith Francis had two RBIs for the Buffs in the first game.

The second game was an offensive showcase for nearly the entire Madras lineup, led by Vibbert (5-for-6, two doubles, three RBIs) and Smith Francis (5-for-5, two RBIs). Steuart again had three hits and three RBIs, Cheydon Herkshan had three hits, and Arysta Pineda and Genesis Quiroz each had two hits and two RBIs to get the Buffs off to a 2-0 conference start.

Monday’s sweep ran the Buffaloes’ winning streak to five games as Madras improved to 6-3 overall.
