Late heroics help Sisters to win over Junction City

JUNCTION CITY — Zach Morgan had just one hit Tuesday, but he made it count. He also struck out just four in a complete game, but it was the last one that secured a victory.

With Sisters trailing by a run in the top of the seventh inning, Morgan led off with a solo home run to tie the game, later followed by a two-out RBI single by Austin Lake. And to cap a 1-2-3 inning in the home half, Morgan recorded his final strikeout of the day to earn the Outlaws a 3-2 Sky-Em League baseball win over Junction City.

Pherry Luz singled in the top of the second inning and scored soon after to give Sisters (3-1 Sky-Em, 9-4 overall) a 1-0 lead. The Outlaws, though, were held off the scoreboard over the next four innings, including in the third inning, when Sisters left the bases loaded.

The Tigers scored a run each in the fifth and sixth innings to jump in front 2-1, setting up the Outlaws for a seventh-inning rally to steal a Sky-Em win.

Luz and Dillon Tucker each had two hits for the Outlaws, while eight other players finished with one hit apiece.

Summit 14, Redmond 8: REDMOND — Evan Scalley had three hits and three RBIs, Hayden Love had two hits and drove in four runs, and Summit raced away to an Intermountain Conference win. Drew Steelhammer, Wolf Meckem and Logan Peterson each had two RBIs for the Storm (4-1 IMC, 4-7 overall), and Joe Hardy had two hits. Andrew Mckague led Redmond (2-2, 6-7) with three hits, while Kyle Simpson, Cooper Browning, Cannon Thompson, Austin Carter and Rhett Haigh each had an RBI.

Bend 14, Ridgeview 3: REDMOND — The Class 5A No. 7-ranked Lava Bears scored eight runs in the top of the second inning en route to a Intermountain Conference win. Kyle Reed had three hits and three RBIs for Bend (1-0 IMC, 5-4 overall), and Steve Talamantes had two hits and two RBIs. The Bears’ Caden Mathisen struck out four over six innings. Ben Gunnels and Evan Hockett each had a hit and an RBI for Ridgeview (1-3, 2-10).

The Dalles 5, Mountain View 2: THE DALLES — The Riverhawks scored one run in each of the last five innings to deal the Cougars a nonconference loss. Charlie Borla was 2-for-3 for Mountain View (1-10), while Tanner Wild and Noah Murillo each had a hit and an RBI.

Softball

Redmond 22, Summit 14: REDMOND — Audrey McKenzie’s leadoff homer in the first inning set the tone early for Redmond, which piled up 25 hits in an Intermountain Conference win. McKenzie, who also hit two doubles, was 4-for-5 for the Panthers (3-1 IMC, 5-7 overall), as were Scout DeMain (two triples, five RBIs) and Kiki Fierstos (double, triple, three RBIs). Adding to the Redmond attack were Jinya Glenn, who was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, and Ondriah Oyloe, whose two hits included a two-run homer. Summit (0-4, 0-9) was led by Grace Dealy, who was 4-for-5, Amanda Mellor, who was 3-for-5, and Hailey Nelson, who was 2-for-5 with a triple.

Ridgeview 14, Bend 0: REDMOND — Bend’s Erin Conrad broke up Allicite Frost’s perfect game with a fifth-inning hit, but the the Ravens’ pitcher ended the game with 10 strikeouts and walked none in Ridgeview’s Intermountain Conference win. Frost, who allowed just one hit in the circle, was 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Emma Cannon also knocked in three runs for the Ravens (4-0 IMC, 9-1 overall), while the Lava Bears (3-7-1) lost their IMC opener.

Hood River Valley 10, Mountain View 0: HOOD RIVER — The Cougars (2-4) lost in six innings in a nonleague game.

Junction City 26, Sisters 0: SISTERS — The visiting Tigers scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning and no-hit Sisters in a Sky-Em League win. Tatum Sitz recorded her first complete game for the Outlaws (0-4 Sky-Em, 1-10 overall) and finished with two strikeouts.

La Pine 20, Culver 9: LA PINE — La Pine’s SueAnn Marsh hit a three-run homer in the second inning and finished the game with seven RBIs to lead the Hawks to a nonleague win. Kiah Toepfer scored four runs for the Hawks (3-7). Kinzi Jagels and Irma Retano each scored twice for the Bulldogs (0-13), and Esperanza Mendoza drove in two runs.

Boys lacrosse

Ridgeview 9, Sisters 8: SISTERS — After allowing a late goal to send the High Desert Conference game into overtime, the Ravens scored two minutes into the extra session, courtesy of Jacob Matheson’s third goal of the game, to claim the victory. Ethan Morgan led Sisters (0-1 HDC, 3-3 overall) with three goals. Trey Stadeli had two goals and an assist for the Outlaws, Jared Richerson scored twice, and Gator Haken scored the equalizer with just over a minute left in regulation. Michael Ashley had a goal and four assists for the Ravens (1-1, 3-2), and Brantley Biondi had two goals and an assist. Danny McGinty scored twice for Ridgeview, and Elliott Smith made 15 saves.
