KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kyle Seager hit a go-ahead homer with two outs in the eighth inning, and Seattle held on to beat Kansas City. James Paxton matched a career best with 10 strikeouts over six innings before turning it over to the bullpen. Nick Vincent worked a perfect seventh, and Juan Nicasio retired three in a row after putting runners on the corners before closer Edwin Diaz entered for the ninth for the Mariners, who concluded a 10-day road trip spanning about 5,200 miles by winning the last two games of the three-game set.

BOSTON — Tyler Austin rushed the mound after being hit by a pitch from Red Sox reliever Joe Kelly, triggering a bench-clearing brawl in a ramped-up rivalry as New York ended Boston’s nine-game winning streak. In a matchup between teams that have long tangled, Gary Sanchez hit two home runs in a game that twice saw the benches empty and a fight that resulted in a trio of ejections.

CLEVELAND — Detroit pitcher Jordan Zimmermann bruised the right side of his jaw when hit in the face by a line drive off the bat of Cleveland’s Jason Kipnis. Making his third start of the season, Zimmermann retired Francisco Lindor on a fly ball starting the game. The 31-year-old right-hander had little time to react to Kipnis’ liner on a 2-2 pitch. Zimmermann sat up and spoke to Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire, then walked off the field while holding a towel to his face. The Tigers said Zimmermann passed concussion protocol tests and was taken for X-rays.
