Sisters residents invited to city vision meetings

Sisters residents are invited to voice their opinion at a series of community meetings that are part of the city’s community visioning process.

Sisters Country Horizons is a yearlong project that will help establish a community vision that will focus on four main concepts — livability, prosperity, resilience and community engagement. Those are broken down further into categories that include housing, disaster preparedness, economic development and volunteer opportunities.

The final community vision will streamline future planning and residents are encouraged to join the city, NXT Consulting Group, the Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council and Deschutes County in the process.

The first public meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Sisters Camp Sherman Fire District.

The following meeting dates are:

• 9:30 to 11 a.m. April 17, at Sisters Library

• 2:30 to 4 p.m. April 24, at Sisters Library

• 5:30 to 7 p.m.April 26, at Sisters Park and Recreation District

• 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 2, at Sisters City Hall

• 6:30 to 8 p.m.May 2, at Sisters Church of the Nazarene

• 3 to 4:30 p.m. May 3, in the Brand 33 Lodge at Aspen Lakes Golf Course

• 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 8, at Tollgate Community Center.

Several additional meetings, including a meeting with members of Sisters’ Latino community, are in the process of being scheduled. Meetings will engage residents in a series of questions similar to those found in an online survey offered through the end of April.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for residents of the city and unincorporated areas of the County to come together and craft a joint vision for our community,” said Patrick Davenport, director of community development, in a press release. “We welcome and encourage everyone to contribute to the process to make this effort a success.”
