Sisters narrowly defeats Cottage Grove

SISTERS — A 1-2-3 finish in the 100-meter dash set the tone for the Sisters girls at a three-team track and field meet Thursday, as the Outlaws edged runner-up Cottage Grove by 10 points.

Erynn Ricker, Mandi Calavan and Ryliereece Morgan swept the top three spots of the 100 for Sisters, which totaled 216.5 points to take first place as a team. Cottage Grove had 206.5 points, and Sweet Home finished with 102 points.

Morgan also won the long jump with a personal-record jump of 17 feet, 3 inches, and she took first in the high jump. Ricker was first in the pole vault, and Calavan won the 200 with a PR of 27.27 seconds. Also for the Outlaws, Kate Bowen posted a personal-best 2:31.91 to win the 800, Amy Hills was first in the 400, and Anna Bartlett took the 1,500.

For the Sisters boys, who were second as a team with 164.25 points, Garrett Kersavage tied for first in the pole vault and won the triple jump, and Skyler Larson tied for first in the high jump and was runner-up in the 300 hurdles. Hayden Sharp tied for first in the pole vault with a PR clearance of 10-6 and placed third in the 400. Sisters’ Hayden Young also tied for first in the pole vault with a personal record, Zach Anderson tied for first in the high jump, and Jordan Pollard won the 400.

Cottage Grove won with 229.25 points, and Sweet Home finished third with 134.5 points.

Buffs post top marks: GLADSTONE — Olivia Symons posted a personal record of 16-5¼ in a girls long jump victory and was first in the 200, and Tyler Anderson won the boys 800 in a personal-record time of 2:05.22 to highlight Madras at a four-team meet. No team scores were posted. The White Buffaloes’ Allen Jackson won the boys high jump and was second in the 110 hurdles and fourth in the long jump, and Chad Thurby was first in the 100. Natalie Tewee was second in the high jump and third in the 800 for the Mdras girls, while Allyson Dominiak finished runner-up in the discus.

Cowboys rack up wins: ESTACADA — Eight athletes claimed victories for the Crook County boys at a three-team Tri-Valley Conference meet, including three who set personal records. The Cowboys’ Jonas Rice ran a personal-best 15.95 seconds to win the 110 hurdles, and he was also second in both the 300 hurdles and the pole vault. Caleb Parrott was first in the discus with a PR throw of 131-9, and he was runner-up in the shot put to Crook County teammate Tyler Humeston. Also for the Cowboys, Miles Chaney won the 1,500 with a personal-record time of 4:39.54. Gracie Kasberger paced the Crook County girls with a win in the 200 (with a PR of 27.98 seconds) and a third-place finish in the high jump. The Cowgirls’ Kenna Woodward won the discus and was second in the shot put, and Mckinzee Mode (800) and Faith Wagner (pole vault) each claimed victories. No team scores were posted.

Baseball

La Pine 10, Culver 5: CULVER — Jake Farnsworth had four of La Pine’s 15 hits and drove in two runs, leading the Hawks to the nonleague win on a windy afternoon in Culver. Also for the Hawks (10-1), Adam Plant had three hits and scored two runs, Wyatt DeForest hit two doubles and had two RBIs, and Riley Pinckney was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Plant and Farnsworth shared pitching duties for La Pine and allowed seven hits, four of them by Joe Russo, who scored three runs for the Bulldogs (4-4).

Softball

Union/Cove 16-15, Culver 0-1: CULVER — After being no-hit in the opener, Culver managed five hits in the second game of a Class 2A/1A Special District 6 doubleheader. Mia Gamboa was 3-for-3 with two doubles in the second game for the Bulldogs (0-4 SD6, 0-15 overall). Ryanne Scholl added a single and knocked in Anyla Rico, who also singled, with Culver’s lone run in the two five-inning contests.
