Crook County cruises through twin bill with Corbett

PRINEVILLE — Crook County led all the way in both ends of a Tri-Valley Conference baseball doubleheader over Corbett on Friday, winning 9-3 in the opener and capping the sweep with an 11-1 victory in five innings.
In the first game, the makeup of an earlier rainout, Heath Pickhardt drove in five runs and Payton Faust was 3-for-4 to back the four-hit pitching of Diego Smith. Pickhardt had two hits in the opener, as did Riley Forman, Brody Connell and Josh Norris.
In the second game, Carson Smith pitched four shutout innings to earn the victory. Devin Wilson was 2-for-2 and Augustus Williams and Norris each had three RBIs as the Cowboys (4-0 TVC, 8-3 overall) stretched their winning streak to seven games.

Summit 14, Redmond 11: REDMOND — A six-run third inning helped the Storm build a 12-4 lead, and the visitors held on from there for their first Intermountain Conference win of the season. Amanda Mellor led Summit (1-5 IMC, 1-11 overall) with three hits. The Storm’s Hailey Nelson was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, and Gianna Viola was 2-for-3 with a double. Alexis New went 4-for-4 with a double for Redmond (4-2, 6-8), Scout DeMain went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs, and Ondriah Oyloe homered and drove in three runs.
Sisters 24-4, Cottage Grove 23-18: SISTERS — Sara Hartford went 5-for-5 with a double for Sisters (1-4 Sky-Em, 2-10 overall) in the first game of the doubleheader, which was ended after five innings due to time constraints. The Outlaws struggled to keep up with the Cottage Grove bats in the second game, but Bethanne Yount provided a highlight in the bottom of the fourth, hitting her second home run of the season.
Baseball
Summit 6, Redmond 3: REDMOND — The Storm withstood a three-run fifth inning by Redmond and rode a strong pitching performance by Dylan Anderman to an Intermountain Conference win. Anderman struck out 12 in five innings for Summit (6-1 IMC, 6-7 overall), which recorded its fifth straight victory. Logan Peterson had two hits and an RBI for the Storm, and Hank Tobias and Drew Steelhammer each contributed two hits. The Panthers (2-4, 6-9) suffered their fourth straight loss.
Bend 10, Ridgeview 8: REDMOND — Reese Gordon went 3-for-3 with two triples and an RBI, and the Lava Bears built an 8-2 lead before holding on for an Intermountain Conference victory. Marshall Davis had two hits, including a homer, and two RBIs for Bend (3-0 IMC, 7-4 overall), Tysen Scott doubled and drove in two runs, and Steve Talamantes had a hit and two RBIs. Evan Hockett paced Ridgeview (1-5, 2-12) with four hits and two RBIs. Ben Gunnels went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Ryan Wellman singled twice and drove in two runs.
Silverton 10, Mountain View 2: Ryan Martini and J.C. Bowles each had two hits, but the Cougars gave up eight runs in the top of the fifth inning that allowed Silverton to claim a nonconference win. B.B. Logan had a double and an RBI for Mountain View (1-11), and Jayson Kinyon had a hit and drove in a run.
Sisters 9-4, Cottage Grove 3-5: COTTAGE GROVE — The Outlaws’ offense came alive to take the first game of a Sky-Em League doubleheader, but Sisters was kept at bay in the second contest as Cottage Grove scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal the win. In the opener, Taylor Fendall had three hits and two RBIs for the Outlaws, who scored six runs in the first inning. Sisters’ Austin Morss had two hits and two RBIs, Zach Morgan had three hits, and Turner Stutzman struck out four and allowed just three hits in a complete game. Austin Lake had two hits for the Outlaws in the second game, during which Sisters (4-2 Sky-Em, 10-5 overall) led 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Garrett Vohs drove in two runs for the Outlaws.
Boys lacrosse
Ridgeview 12, Sprague 9: REDMOND — Brantley Biondi and Danny McGinty scored four goals apiece and Biondi had four assists as the Ravens upended the Olympians from Salem in a nonconference match. Goalkeeper Elliott Smith made 19 saves to anchor the defense for Ridgeview (5-2). Also for the Ravens, Mike Ashley had two goals and three assists and Jake Matheson had a goal and an assist.
Girls lacrosse
Sisters 9, Grant 7: SISTERS — Kaylee Huber, Pearl Gregg and Mary Root scored two goals apiece, and Sisters held off a second-half charge by the Generals from Portland to claim the nonleague win. The Outlaws (6-2) led 6-1 at halftime before Grant scored three goals early in the second half to make it close the rest of the way.
Track and field
Pack of Panthers place individually: SALEM — Ava Kitchin placed fifth in the discus, Hailey Gieschen took sixth in the javelin, and the Redmond girls posted 11 points to take 11th at the 13-team Viking Relays. Clackamas won with 111 points. Also for the Panthers, Ellie Corwin (shot put) and Kimberly Roberts (3,000) each placed seventh. For the Redmond boys, who were 12th as a team with 19 points, Chance Greene was fourth in the discus and sixth in the javelin. The Panthers’ Tyson Hester placed fifth in the 110 hurdles and seventh in the javelin, and Treyson Conley took fourth in the 3,000. Hood River Valley topped the team standings with 112.5 points.
Storm near top of standings: EUGENE — The quartet of Taylor Vandenborn, Zoe Villano, Isabel Max and Fiona Max teamed up to place second in the girls distance medley relay, headlining Summit’s first day at the Oregon Relays. The Storm, whose Haley Smith placed third in the girls discus, recorded 12 points to head into the final day in 12th place overall. Mountain View (Idaho) sits atop the 51-team standings with 35 points. Also for Summit, Noah Turnbull was fifth in the boys shot put, and Kelsey Gripekoven took eighth in the girls varsity 3,000. Summit finished seventh in both the boys distance medley relay and the girls 4×200 relay.
