District news

• Kira Fee has joined Redmond School District as an assistant director of student services. Fee will oversee elementary special education programs and other programs to be determined. She has experience as a behavior and learning specialist and in teaching at elementary and high school levels. Fee earned a Master of Arts in teaching from Pacific University and expects to complete a doctorate in education methodology policy and leadership from the University of Oregon in the fall.

• Karen Jordan has joined Redmond School District as an assistant director of student services to work alongside Kira Fee. Jordan will oversee secondary special education programs, including Transition, the community-based program for 18-21-year-old special needs students. She has experience as an autism specialist and as a teacher. She holds a master’s degree in education from Western Oregon University.

• Family Access Network has received $6,114 from Jersey Mike’s during its 2018 March Month of Giving campaign. On March 28, Jersey Mike’s held the Day of Giving at both Bend locations, where 100 percent of proceeds went directly to FAN.

Teen feats

• Redmond Proficiency Academy’s thespian troupe won nine awards at the annual Oregon State Thespian Conference’s Acting Competition on April 5. In addition to the nine state-showcase ribbons, RPA’s thespian troupe #7715 was awarded Oregon Thespians’ Honor Troupe status. Grace Blanchette, Aidan Bremont, Tayah Hester, Izzy King, Maria Kramer, Marli Messner, Riley Newton, Grace Sorensen, Kate Torcom and Nate Viscaino performed for the entire conference in the state showcase.

School notes

• Heather Wales has joined Barnes Butte Elementary School in Crook County as a resource teacher. She has worked in special education for eight years. Heather and her family moved to Oregon from Arizona last July.
