Beavers sweep shortened series — Finishing what it started a day earlier, Oregon State held on for a 10-2 nonconference win over Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri, on Saturday. The No. 7 Beavers took a 10-1, second-inning lead into the day after rain suspended play in the second game of a Friday doubleheader at Hammons Field. OSU (26-6) won Friday’s opener 17-6. Grant Gambrell took the mound Saturday, limiting the No. 24 Bears (22-10) to three hits and a run while striking out eight in 51⁄3 innings in what qualified as a relief outing. The sophomore picked up the win, improving to 4-1. A fifth-inning double by Missouri State’s Jeremy Eirman accounted for Saturday’s lone run. Low temperatures wiped out the series finale slated for Saturday night. Oregon State opens a three-game Pac-12 series at home against Oregon on Thursday.

Duck-Huskies rained out — Game 2 of Oregon’s three-game Pac-12 Conference series versus Washington in Seattle was rained out Saturday and will be played as part of a Sunday doubleheader at Husky Ballpark. Sunday’s opener is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by the second game starting at 2 p.m. The Huskies won the opener on Friday night, 2-1.

Miranda Elish pitched a four-hitter, striking out 12 and walking none over seven innings to improve to 14-1. A fifth-inning homer by DaNae Chatman accounted for the lone run of the game for the host Sun Devils (7-4 Pac-12, 33-7 overall). April Utech, Mary Iakopo, D.J. Sanders and Lauren Lindvall also homered for Oregon (9-2, 34-6 overall), which can sweep the three-game series with a win Sunday.

Back-to-back blasts lift OSU — Alysha Everett and Hope Brandner hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning Saturday to power Oregon State to a 4-1 Pac-12 Conference win at Stanford. Brandner followed Everett’s two-run shot with a solo homer that gave OSU a 4-0 lead. Missy Nunes was 3-for-4 for the Beavers (6-8 Pac-12, 23-17 overall). Starter Meehra Nelson (12-7) was the winning pitcher, allowing a run on five hits with three strikeouts over five innings. Oregon State goes for a sweep of the three-game series Sunday.
