February 23, 1923 – March 29, 2018

Jean was born to Jasper and Ida Kanawyer in Reedley, CA. She grew up there and graduated from high school in 1941. She married John P. Holly in 1943 in Reno, NV. Their first son, Doug, was born in 1946. Soon after, they moved to Bend and began ranching. Their second son, Alan, was born in 1951. After divorcing in 1968, Jean moved to Honolulu, HI, for several years. She then returned to Central Oregon to be closer to her sons and grandchildren.

Jean had several occupations during her life, but none she enjoyed more than being “Grandma Jean” in the Foster Grandparent Program. She spent many happy years working at Juniper and High Lakes Elementary schools in Bend and Evergreen Elementary in Redmond. Being with the students and helping them learn to read gave a real purpose to her life. Other joys included being with family and friends, gardening, taking walks, and reading.

She is survived by her sons, Doug (Connie) Holly of Sisters; and Alan Holly of Lebanon. She is also survived by Jeanie Holly of Redmond; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Brookside Place and Heart and Home Hospice for giving her and us comfort in her final days. No service will be held. Messages for the family can be left at www.niswonger-reynolds.com.
